Celebrating the 10-year journey participating in the HIV/AIDS prevention program, from 16th to 19th of December, the Centre for Promotion of Quality of Life (LIFE) organized a road trip full of enthusiasm from the members of community organizations (CBO) together with LIFE.

LIFE and CBOs visits the Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office for Social Evils Prevention and Control – Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Outpatient Clinic.

The road trip goes through the provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City. In each locality, LIFE and CBOs visits the Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office for Social Evils Prevention and Control – Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Outpatient Clinic. With many cohesive activities such as presenting the achievements that LIFE and the community over the past 10 years, affirming the role of the community in controlling and ending the AIDS epidemic, thereby promoting cooperation with the local departments for sustainable development.

Over the past 10 years, with coordination from the LIFE Center, community organizations have been growing, united and committed to the goal of ending the HIV / AIDS epidemic in Vietnam. Significant contributions of the community to the HIV / AIDS program have been increasingly recognized by governments and international organizations.

The community has been preventing HIV transmission for nearly 1 million people, detecting 11,639 new HIV infections, refering to ARV treatment for 10,995 people, distributing 13,873,526 condoms to people with high risk, 15,165. 747 needles and syringes were provided to people who inject drugs. Community-based HIV services have helped fill the gaps in services provision from health facilities and ease the difficults in service access for customers.

LIFE is supporting and coordinating 34 CBOs, 08 leading communityorganizations, 10 social enterprises in 5 southern provinces: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Khanh Hoa. On average, LIFE annually mobilizes VND 34 billion for HIV / AIDS prevention and control activities, 75% of which is funded back to CBO. In addition, LIFE trained to 25 community trainers to support LIFE to enhance capacity for CBOs as well as replicate effective HIV intervention models for provinces across the country. In addition, LIFE also supports CBO to mobilize resources for organizational development: the amount of CBO mobilized outside the LIFE project coordinated from US $ 81,382 in 2018 increased to US $ 144,534 in 2019.
