LIFE Centre, together with the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) committees, conducted a field trip to visit CBO Trang Khuyet in Binh Duong province and CBO G-Net Bien Hoa in Dong Nai province.

LIFE Centre coordinates with community-based organizations (CBO) to implement the The Global Fund for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Project (Civil Society Strengthening/VUSTA Component), in 5 sites: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Khanh Hoa provinces.

Applying DEEP intervention management model, LIFE Centre implements the Global Fund project to achieve 03 objectives: (1) Provide HIV prevention services for high risk groups such as injecting drug users, female sex workers, men who have sex with men and transgender women, (2) Strengthen a sustainable and compatible community system in HIV / AIDS prevention and control; and (3) Promote a favorable legal environment and enforce policies and laws to provide access to health services for key target groups of the project.

This field trip is to review the performance of 2019 and the first 5 months of 2020, grasp the situation at the local community, and discuss the next steps to implement projects.

CBO Trang Khuyet was founded and joined the Global Fund project in 2011 with support from LIFE Centre.

From January 2019 to May 2020, with support from LIFE Centre, CBO Trang Khuyet reached 1,686 customers, tested 1,562 customers, and detected and referred 103 positive HIV cases to ARV treatment. In addition, CBO Crescent has allocated 245,469 condoms, 114,000 packs of lubricants, 115,440 needles and syringes, and 61,190 packs of distilled water. In particular, about 50% of newly discovered positive cases in Thuan An area are sent by CBO Trang Khuyet.

CBO Trang Khuyet actively conducts communication activities through various online and offline channels to reach high-risk communities in industrial zones in Binh Duong province.

In addition, CBO G-Net Bien Hoa implemented a project in Dong Nai province that also gained considerable achievements. Specifically, from 01/2919 to 03/2020 have reached 940 customers, conducted 864 lay-tests, detected and referred to treatment for 36 HIV-positive cases.

CBO G-Net Bien Hoa was established in 2015 with a strong commitment to supporting the communities of men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW).

The CCM committees were highly impressed with the enthusiasm and creativity in the project implementation activities. The contribution of the CBOs as well as the coordination of LIFE Centre are also praised for enhancing the roles of civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) in HIV / AIDS prevention and related fields.

With a staff of young outreach workers, who are members of the MSM-TGW community, CBO G-Net Bien Hoa has gained considerable achievements in HIV / AIDS prevention and control

In addition, the field trip to the CBOs also provides opportunities to tighten solidarity among organizations and partners in the project. It also helps the partners have a better understanding and, thereby make recommendations to improve the projects, such as: applying state budget to sign social contract with CBO; mobilizing resources for CBO to develop into a social enterprise with legal status; applying digital technology to data management to continually improve project quality.
