HIV/AIDS prevention knowledge is delivered by community master trainer to outreach workers in capacity building courses, as well as for clients in communication sessions. With the initiative of using Kahoot mobile application, a learning platform in form of multiple choice questions, participating players can answer questions on the projector screen from their smartphones. This new communication technology is not only a new interactive learning method to raise awareness, but also well received by young clients from the communities of men who have sex with men and transgender women (MSM – TGW).

In the past, small group communications conducted by community-based organizations (CBOs) were often in one-way sharing of information. That is, master trainers present on HIV/AIDS prevention knowledge, while customers listen passively. The MSM – TG customers love new technology and always carry smartphones. However, they are often distracted and use smartphones during communication sessions. This interrupted the flow of learning information, reducing the effectiveness of the communication and training sessions.

When organizing the Kahoot game, community master trainer can ask participants to explain their answers, which will further increase the learning effectiveness and engaging atmosphere of the sessions. The visual interface of Kahoot together with rewards for winners are well responed from MSM – TG participants. The answer statistics at the end are used to decide the winners; as well as a tool to measure participant learning ability.

In conclusion, through many sessions, Kahoot has proved significant results in capacity building courses, as well as in communication sessions on HIV/AIDS prevention. More than 90% of customers have better understanding on sexual health knowledge. In addition, the communication sessions become engaging and received positive feedback. Clients gain valuable knowledge, reduce stigma and are familiar with HIV prevention services provided by the CBO network.
